Basic Troubleshooting For Q-Scan V2.0 Counters

  • Why am I getting a beam blocked message on the counter?

There is an obstruction between the counter and reflectors.  You are standing directly in-front of the counter as you try to read the screen

It has been knocked out of alignment. (If this is the case, perform an alignment test as shown and explained in the user manual.)

It has not been mounted “flush” on the wall or the circuit board is not fully sitting “flush” in the grooves of the front casing.

The back housing has been over-tightened whilst screwing on the wall.

The unit or the area where it is positioned is in direct sunlight

  • Why won't the remote control activate the screen on the counter?
Check the batteries are inserted and are not flat
The unit or the area where it is positioned is in direct sunlight and the receivers are being flooded with light
The unit is too close to an automatic door and getting interference from the infrared door sensors

  • Why am I not getting any beam strength signals from the reflectors?

The beam strength is set to 0. This must be increased from 0 using the remote control. Once the beam strength has been adjusted to the correct level, it is crucial that you press the centre button (mute button) on the remote to save these beam strength settings.

The reflectors have not been correctly aligned with the counter.

The unit or the area where it is positioned is in direct sunlight

  • Why are the counts from my counter skewed with false readings?

The counter has been positioned too close near glass, causing sunlight to reflect off the glass and onto the unit. This can cause counts to be added to the unit.

The counter has been positioned too close to the door, where the door opens inwards. This can cause the counter to be blocked as the door opens.

Please be aware that as this is a “beam counter”, it is not intelligent enough to distinguish two people walking side by side. This means that they would only be counted as 1 person.

  • Why can’t I download the counts off my Q-Scan unit with Q-Scan data downloader software?

The software must be installed on the PC / Laptop you are using to download counts

Counts can only be downloaded off the unit if the counter is powered up using the mains adapter supplied with the counter. (The unit does not power up with the USB cable – it needs external power.)

The board rate is not set to 38400, which the counter uses.

The counter has not been setup on the Q-Scan data downloader software.

USB port has not been recognised on your PC/Laptop.
