White Paper for Axiomatic & Irisys
16 May 2010
It’s no secret that many retailers are fighting for survival. The margin between labour costs and sales revenue has been shrinking for some time. And with the global recession sales have plummeted, adding dramatic urgency to every strategic move retailers make.
10 Reasons to Monitor Footfall
1. Staff Planning & Optimisation – whether you are in retail, a service industry, leisure or a public sector venue staff optimisation is not about reducing staff, but about ensuring that the right number of staff, are in the right place, at the right time to achieve the right staff customer ratio. By monitoring the peaks and troughs in daily, weekly, monthly and annual footfall, you can refine and tailor your staff schedule to maximise customer service, reduce customer queue wait times and reduce the number of customer complaints, lost opportunities and disappointed visitors.
2. Occupancy Management for special events – leisure facilities such as swimming pools, night clubs and bars, as well as sports and music arenas need to monitor pedestrian traffic flow rates to help manage occupancy levels and ensure that maximum occupancy health and safety thresholds are not breached. Retailers running special promotions may not realise that there is an optimum occupancy for their stores, above which people refuse to queue or purchase goods. People Counting and queue management systems can help you ensure that you reduce the number of missed sales opportunities during busy periods.
Activity Mapping configuration utility for IP people counter Irisys IRC3010 & IRC3030
The IRISYS IRC3010 and IRC3030 IP people counters are the latest models in the Irisys thermal imaging people counter family. The IRC3030 ‘DualView’ is also the world’s first dual-technology counting device with video output to augment the thermal counter. The IP capability allows remote configuration and data collection over IP infrastructure, either over an in-store LAN, or worldwide from remote locations over the internet. An embedded web-browser set-up and configuration tool is provided free with the unit which allows thermal view (plus simultaneous video, in the case of
the IRC3030) to be observed. The IRC3010 & IRC3030 combine the well-known ease of use and low cost of ownership of the existing Irisys IRC1004 unit with the remote configuration capability
provided by using the IP channel. The IRC3030 has the added benefit of an absolute verification capability provided by the video feed, again over a single IP channel. Irisys have added a new configuration utility into the standard set-up software for the IRC3010 and IRC3030 IP enabled people counters: the ability to build up an ‘Activity Map’ for the field of view of the counter. This facility is of enormous benefit to installation and configuration engineers as it
gives an immediate indication of how people move through the space and provides a tool to aid placement of the counting lines with a high degree of certainty that the placement will be accurate.
The activity map can be accessed remotely over the IP connection, or locally over a direct serial connection.
The Need for Better In-Store Service Management
The Brickstream System enables a closed-loop learning cycle, so you can continuously capture and analyse information about the service level provided to your customers and the allocation and performance of front-end service colleagues and resources. Retailers typically realise business value from this management information with respect to the following business problems:
- front-end wage cost reduction
- an effective central queue management performance measure
- real-time proactive service management
- productivity/efficiency increase
- resource optimisation and allocation – number and mix of checkouts
- improved customer check-out experience
